In this article: We’re sharing five internal workflow use cases that have emerged from our MCP early access conversations, including Slack-based fund lookups, standing digest reports, new team member onboarding, pre-call briefings, and portfolio deadline tracking. For each, we’ll show what information Claude can work with from InvestNext and how you might build the workflow.

In our last post, we shared four ways InvestNext MCP early access customers are using Claude to make investors feel seen: catching milestones, noticing re-engagement opportunities, personalizing updates, and turning travel into face time.

In our early access conversations, a second pattern started to take shape, this time on the internal workflows that indirectly shape a GP’s reputation.

Our customers started asking what it would look like to point AI and InvestNext access at their own internal habits: the Slack question that turns into a login, the report someone rebuilds by hand every Monday, the new hire piecing together a fund’s history from old emails, or the pre-call scramble to remember what was said last time.

Those conversations inspired what we’re calling an In Sync Kit: five ideas we’ve explored with customers for using Claude and InvestNext MCP to keep internal teams aligned and focused on high-impact tasks.

As before, some of these work best as a one-time prompt, an instruction you give Claude in the moment. Others are better suited to skills, reusable instructions that let Claude repeat a workflow without your team rebuilding it each time.

Quick Glossary: A Refresher on AI Terms

If you read our last article on InvestNext MCP use cases, this will look familiar. Here’s a quick recap of what these terms mean going forward.

  • MCP (Model Context Protocol): A standard that allows AI applications to securely connect to external tools and data sources. InvestNext MCP allows supported AI tools to work with information from your InvestNext account.
  • Claude: Anthropic’s AI assistant and the tool used in these examples.
  • Prompt: An instruction or question you give an AI assistant to complete a specific task.
  • Skill: A reusable set of instructions that helps Claude perform the same type of task consistently without rebuilding the workflow each time.

1. Answer Questions Where Your Team Already Works: Internal Slackbot Access

A great starting point for streamlining internal workflows? Put the information and the conversation in one place. This means making the depth of data that’s found in InvestNext available in the tools where your team collaborates.

A Director of Operations wants to know the current commitment total on a project. The Investor Relations Lead wants to check how many active investors are in a fund before a meeting starts in ten minutes. Right now, that usually means opening a tab, logging into InvestNext, and searching for the answer, or maybe even pinging someone else on the team who has the answer already.

That’s where our customers saw an opportunity for InvestNext MCP.

What Claude can pull from InvestNext: Fund, project, position, commitment, and distribution data, scoped to what the person asking is permitted to see.

How to explore it: This is a good place to start something small. A one-off Slack question is a prompt, not a skill, which makes it a low-effort way to test whether your team will take advantage of this.

Connect Claude to the Slack channel or workspace your team already uses, and let people ask their questions directly there when they need a quick answer.

This workflow doesn’t replace InvestNext, but it allows the connection between Claude and InvestNext to surface an answer in the same place your team is already communicating, increasing visibility without breaking anyone’s focus to go grab the answer.

Try this in Claude:

The setup below assumes InvestNext MCP has already been enabled as a Claude connector for your account. From there, adding Claude to Slack is a standard Slack install, not something specific to InvestNext:

1. In Slack, visit the Claude listing in the Slack Marketplace and click Add to Slack, then Allow to grant access. (On an Enterprise Grid workspace, an Org Owner, Org Admin, or Integration Admin may need to install Claude at the organization level instead, through Tools & settings > Manage apps.)

2. Connect your account: open Agents & tools in the sidebar, select Apps, find Claude, click Open App, then Home, then Connect Account, and sign in.

3. Add Claude to the specific channel your team uses: open that channel, click the channel name, select the Agents & apps tab, click Add Agent or App, and click Add next to Claude.

4. From there, anyone in the channel can tag @Claude with a question, and it will answer using whatever data your InvestNext MCP connection makes available to them.

5. Test it. Ask “How many investors do we currently have in [Project Name], and how much have we raised so far?” A correct, current answer means the connection is working end to end.

2. Start the Day Already Informed: Daily or Weekly Digest Emails

Another idea that came up often was not about asking a question, but having the answer ready and waiting for you before you ask.

Let’s say a fund leader wants a consistent read on what happened across their portfolio: new commitments, recent transactions, distribution activity. Someone on the team usually pulls that together by hand, on a schedule, whether or not anything meaningful changed that day.

We’ve already seen a customer moving in this direction on their own, building a version of this report manually. That’s exactly the kind of habit customers are now looking to hand off to Claude.

What Claude can pull from InvestNext: Recent commitments, position and class transactions, and distribution activity across the projects you specify.

How to explore it: We recommend building a skill for this one. A digest is a standing report that runs on a schedule, and a skill lets Claude repeat the same format every time without your team rebuilding the instructions each morning.

Define what they actually want to see (new investments over the last 24 hours, distributions that posted overnight, anything that crossed a threshold worth flagging), and let the report land in their inbox before they open their laptop.

Try this in Claude:

Review activity across [Project Name(s)] from the last 24 hours and prepare a short morning digest.

Include:

– New commitments and their amounts
– Distributions or transactions that posted
– Anything that crossed a threshold of [$X]

Write it as a short email an executive could read in under a minute. Do not include anything that didn’t change.

3. Get New Team Members Up to Speed Faster: Internal Onboarding Support

This idea solves a real problem for a fast-growing team: a new team member doesn’t have years of context sitting in their head, and historical reports don’t always explain themselves.

Right now, getting oriented on a fund usually means digging through old reports, asking a colleague to walk you through it, or piecing the story together over the first few weeks on the job.

What Claude can pull from InvestNext: A project’s structure, its key investors and their commitment levels, and recent activity such as distributions or transactions.

How to explore it: Start with a prompt. A new hire, or the manager helping them ramp up, can simply ask Claude to summarize a fund in plain language rather than searching for the pieces themselves.

These instructions can be turned into a reusable skill that runs the same way for the next person who joins.

The summary doesn’t replace the judgment a team builds over time. It does give a new employee a faster, more complete starting point than a folder of old documents.

Try this in Claude:

Summarize [Fund Name]’s structure, including its key investors and their commitment levels, along with any distributions or transactions from the last 90 days.

Write it for someone joining the team who has no prior context on this fund. Keep it clear and avoid assuming familiarity with our internal shorthand.

4. Walk Into Every Call Prepared: Pre-Call Briefings

One idea that overlapped with more than one customer’s team was a familiar scramble: before an investor call, someone pulls together current holdings, recent distributions, and whatever was said last time, often at the last minute and sometimes from memory.

This information often lives in a few different places, and there usually isn’t much time to gather it.

What Claude can pull from InvestNext: An investor’s current holdings, recent distributions, and relevant position or account information, alongside any notes on file from prior correspondence.

How to explore it: This is another good candidate for a prompt, since every call is a little different. Ask Claude to pull the briefing shortly before the call, review it, and add anything from memory that isn’t captured in the system.

If pre-call prep becomes something your team does before every meeting, it’s worth turning into a skill so the same format shows up every time, whoever is preparing it.

Try this in Claude:

Include:

– Current holdings and positions
– Recent distributions
– Any open items or notes from prior correspondence

Flag anything that looks like it needs a follow-up. Do not draft talking points, just give me the summary so I can prepare.

5. Never Miss What’s Coming Due: Portfolio Deadline Tracking

The last idea we’ve been exploring relates to the key dates every fund operations team is already tracking somewhere: distribution schedules, closings, etc.

When that tracking lives in a spreadsheet or in someone’s head, it works fine until that person is out sick, juggling several other things, or doesn’t notice a date creeping up on the calendar.

What Claude can pull from InvestNext: Distribution dates and offering or closing timelines across the projects you specify.

How to explore it: Build a skill for this one, much like the digest report. Have Claude review your active projects on a set cadence and flag anything coming due in the next week or two, sorted by date.

Try this in Claude:

Review our active projects in InvestNext and identify any distributions or closings scheduled in the next 30 days.

Return:

– Project name
– Type of deadline (distribution or closing)
– Date
– Anything already flagged as pending or incomplete

Sort the list by date, soonest first.

The Other Side of Investor Relations

Our last post was about the relationships your team manages on the outside: the investor should feel as if they’re your only one, even if they’re one of hundreds.

This article covers key workflows that aren’t necessarily visible to an investor, but shape what they experience.

What we’ve noticed across both sets of conversations is that the underlying ask doesn’t really change. What people keep asking for is a shortcut to their information: the numbers pulled, the history summarized, the deadline flagged, so a person can spend their attention on what to do with it rather than on finding it in the first place.

These five internal workflows are a starting list. The teams getting the most out of InvestNext MCP so far are the ones treating it that way: pick the habit that costs your team the most time this week, and see what changes when Claude handles the legwork.

A Note on Judgment

Faster access to context is the goal here, not less oversight. Before a digest gets forwarded, a briefing gets used on a call, or an onboarding summary gets treated as fact, have someone check it against InvestNext. The time these workflows save is only worth something if what lands in your inbox is accurate.
